About this product
Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra protects vertical exterior wood against discolouration and greying from the sun. Two coats give UV protection factor 12 compared to untreated wood. It is intended for cladding, fences, pergolas, sheds, carports, balconies, windows, doors and shutters. It is not suitable for decks and other horizontal surfaces; use Osmo Decking Oil there.
427 Douglas fir is lightly pigmented in a warm Douglas fir tone. The pigment refreshes the colour of Douglas fir and similar woods. After a first tinted coat you can apply the second coat with clear 420, although the finish will last less long.
The oil stays microporous so the wood can breathe. It is water repellent, does not crack or peel, and can be refreshed later without sanding. The 'Extra' version contains active ingredients that protect the coating against mould and algae, so it is for outdoor use only.
Inspect the finish at least once a year, especially on the weather side. Clean where needed and apply one new thin coat. If the wood has already turned grey, first refresh it with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel and then apply two coats.
How to use it
- The wood must be clean, dry and frost-free (max. 20 % moisture). Let extractive-rich and hard woods weather for about 6 weeks.
- Remove greying first with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel. Do not sand smooth surfaces finer than grit 120.
- Stir well, do not thin.
- Apply thinly with a flat brush or microfibre roller along the grain and spread out very well, also in corners.
- Allow about 12 hours to dry, then apply the second coat.
- Renovation: one coat on the clean, dry surface is usually enough.
